If you have enjoyed this blog, then you might enjoy my book 20th Century Japan in 20 Buildings, published on 1st March 2022. The book picks up and expands on some of the themes included in the blog posts, but presents them in a more detailed and coordinated fashion that tells the story of 20th century Japan through investigation of a series of buildings that were influenced by, and reflect, the major forces that formed modern Japan. It also includes the period from 1970 to 2000, which is not covered in the blog.
It can be bought direct from the publisher, or from a variety of bookshops and online sources.
You can find information about the book on the publisher's website at:
I also have a blogpost, hosted on the publisher's website that talks a little about the background and motivation for the book. If you are interested you can find it here: https://www.lundhumphries.com/blogs/features/20th-century-japan-in-20-buildings-by-john-barr
I would be grateful if you would pass this on to any friends or colleagues that might be interested.
